What is a Registered Tax Agent?

A & C Accounting and Taxation Services is a registered tax agent and we are registered with the Tax Practitioners Board and follow strict regulations that ensure we act in a professional manner.

If you want to have someone prepare or lodge your tax returns, notices or statements, or to provide you with taxation advice, you should ensure they are a Registered Tax Agent and registered with the Tax Practitioners Board.

Only registered agents can legally charge a fee or other reward for providing tax agent or BAS services.

Most registered tax agents have special lodgment schedules and can lodge returns for their clients later than the usual 31 October deadline. But if you did not go to a registered tax agent last year – or you will be going to a different tax agent this year – make sure you see them before 31 October.

Registered tax agents must comply with the Tax Agent Services Act 2009 (TASA), including the Code of Professional Conduct (Code) and civil penalties provisions.

The Code sets out the professional and ethical standards required of tax and BAS agents, including the obligations agents have to their clients, to the Tax Practitioners Board (Board) and in relation to their own conduct.
